Podcast : Are smart meters really that smart?

 

The Commission for energy regulation is planning to roll out so called ‘smart metres' in homes across the country from 2019.

This new technology will replace older metres and the independent energy regulator claims consumers will reap the benefits in terms of cost savings, by allowing us to turn on and off our electricity remotely and keep an eye on our usage.

It could also mean companies could offer different tarrifs for different times of the day.

On the show this week we spoke to Laura Brien director of energy markets at the commission for the regulation of utilities and Leitrim based resident Alanna Moore of Stop Smart Metres Ireland.
