The four elected Sligo-Leitrim TDs have signalled their intent in ensuring a new school building for Scoil Mhuire Primary School in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Minister Marian Harkin along with her government colleagues Frank Feighan, Eamon Scanlon as well as Sinn Féin Deputy Martin Kenny attended a meeting with school staff and the board of management on Monday morning.
Following a merging of the boys' and girls' national schools in 2013, the school has operated across two separate campuses with the population doubling to around 500 students.
While the Department of Education did approve funding for two new classrooms, its felt a new school building is the way forward with a number of existing classrooms not fit for purpose.
