A leading figure in Leitrim Handball has hailed two young athletes who brought world titles back to the county recently. Sisters Sophie and Katie Kane won three titles between them at the World Wallball Championships in Limerick on Friday last. The Fenagh Handball Club members won medals in the U-13 doubles and singles and U-17 plate respectively. They will now set their sights on the 40 by 20 World Championships in October.
Peter Heaney, a leading member of Fenagh Handball Club and a long-time promoter of the game in Leitrim, said it was a fantastic achievement. Speaking to Dan Dooner, he said the Kane family were synonymous with handball in the county.
