A Drumshanbo councillor says he was concerned about tension and counter-protests if a controversial nationalist event went ahead.
Brendan Barry is also a member of the committee that runs the Mayflower Community Centre.
The Mise Éire Festival was due to be held there on August 23rd, but the committee has confirmed it will now not go ahead.
Hundreds of people signed a petition calling for it to be cancelled.
