PODCAST: Could cycling be dangerous for our health?

Blue skies, longer evenings and warmer temperatures all mean that more of us are out and about trying to lose weight, keep healthy, or just wipe away the remainder of a lousy day at work.

Decades ago the country roads were well populated with lots of cyclists going about their daily business, and few cars or tractors.

The reverse is the opposite now though and while cycling is making a comeback on our country roads, is it posing its own kind of traffic hazard?.

The CEO of the Farmers Contractors Association recently told an Oireachtas Transport Committee that the requirement to allow 1.5 metre space to overtake a cyclist is difficult if not impossible to achieve with tractors who have to travel on smaller roads.

Michael Moroney outlined his organisations concerns about cyclists to Joe Finnegan.
