A Ukrainian man charged with an assault causing serious harm in the early hours of New Year’s Day, which resulted in the death of a man in Ballaghaderreen, has been further remanded on bail pending DPP directions.
The court previously heard that Yevhen Shutko (46), with an address at Loughlynn, Co Roscommon, was claiming self defence when charged with the alleged assault.
His reply when charged in January by Garda Brendan McGrath was, “it was definitely not intentional, I was defending myself”.
He was granted bail in January by Judge James Faughnan at Ballaghadereen District Court when independent surety and bail money amounting to €3,000 were furnished to the court.
Following the alleged assault, the injured party was taken to Sligo University Hospital before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he later died.
Sergeant Mark Mahon, for the state, informed the court that DPP directions were still awaited and the accused man was further remanded on bail to July 10.
