There's been a 31 per cent increase across the Shannonside region since 2016.
A ten-year-review for the month of April shows overcrowding at Sligo University Hospital has come at its highest this year, with 903 patients waiting on trolleys in April 2026.

Mullingar Hospital has seen a significant fall in overcrowding, with 49 recorded last month, an 86 per cent decrease since its highest levels ten years ago.
Nationally, University Hospital Limerick accounted for the largest number of those by far, with nearly two thousand, followed by University Hospital Galway with just over one thousand
