Woman killed in Athlone believed to have died two days before body found

Gardai suspect Mirjana Pap was killed and her remains were taken to a field near Taughmaconnell, where they were found on Monday.

A 58-year-old woman is believed to have died two days before her body was found in south Roscommon.

Gardai are continuing to carry out a murder investigation into her death.

She was reported missing from her home in Beechville in Athlone in the early hours of last Saturday morning.

The Croatian woman had two sons and a daughter, all now adults, and lived in the area for over 20 years.

She worked in the refugee centre in Lissywoollen and was highly regarded in the area.

No one has been arrested in connection with her death, but a person of interest has been identified.

Gardai sealed off a house in Athlone and seized two cars, as part of their investigation.
