Ukrainian refugees who have been staying at an Athlone hotel are set to be relocated to alternative accommodation at the end of next month. The Department of Justice confirmed that their contract with the Creggan Court Hotel is due to expire in the coming weeks. It's believed just over 100 Ukrainian refugees are currently living in the hotel which has been used as an accommodation centre since 2022.
In a statement, the Department said "As the demand for State-supported Ukraine accommodation has reduced since 2024, the number of accommodation contracts has reduced each year." They confirmed that any residents who wish to continue to avail of State-supported accommodation may be relocated to alternative Ukraine accommodation. It was also confirmed that the Creggan Court Hotel chose to terminate their contract with the Department and residents are due to be relocated from the property by 31st of May 2026.
