Tributes pour in following passing of Longford's first female mayor

The long-serving politician was also the only female representative elected to Longford County Council in 1985.

The first female mayor of Longford and former Fine Gael councillor, Maura Kilbride-Harkin, has passed away.
She served in the Granard local electoral area from 1985 to 2009, and in 1995 she became the county's first ever female county council chairperson.

Tributes have been pouring in since her passing on Friday at the age of 79, remembered for her deep involvement and work in communities across Granard and beyond.

Maura's removal to St Mary's Church in Granard will take place on Monday, arriving at 5pm.
Her funeral mass will take place on Tuesday in St. Mary's Church Granard at 1pm, with burial afterwards in Granardkille Cemetery.
