TD calls for mandatory sentencing for assaults on members of the emergency services

A Fine Gael TD is calling for mandatory sentencing for assaults on members of the emergency services.

There's been an increase in attacks on Gardaí and HSE staff in 2021.

A six-month mandatory sentence is being suggested for those that carry out an assault.

Dublin Rathdown TD Neale Richmond says stricter penalties have to be handed down.
