Taoiseach confirms death of well-known District Court Judge

Taoiseach Michael Martin paid tribute to Judge Seamus Hughes today.

The death of well-known district court Judge Seamus Hughes has been confirmed by the Taoiseach.

The 69 year old passed away this week following an illness.

The Mayo man was appointed as a judge in 2009 following a career as a solicitor, TD and Councillor.

Judge Hughes oversaw courts in the Shannonside region for a number of years.

He is survived by his wife Maria and children, Colin, Emmet, Sarah and Donal.
