The Tánaiste has confirmed his support for the construction of dedicated Civil Defence facilities in Longford and Leitrim. Speaking at the official opening of the new three million euro Roscommon Civil Defence Headquarters, Simon Harris stated that the new facilities opened in Roscommon should be replicated in every county. Longford and Leitrim Civil Defence do not currently have a purpose built headquarters for operations and storage of vehicles.
In Longford, the Civil Defence currently operate from an old industrial building outside of the town, with that location currently a temporary measure. The industrial property in the Templemichael Business park is set to finish hosting the group later this year with the local Civil Defence now seeking a new Headquarters.
