The number of swifts in Ireland are in decline, according to a Longford wildlife enthusiast.
Larry Mitchell from Swift Conservation Ireland says there is growing concern these birds are no longer nesting and breeding in the region.
Swifts are small, brown migratory birds known for spending nearly their entire lives airborne.
The Longford conservationist is urging people to keep track of signs of nesting in gardens, and to report them to the volunteer group.
Larry Mitchell says it is vital that we protect our local biodiversity.
