A Slovakian man has appeared in court in relation to an alleged stabbing in Longford town last week.
He was granted bail at Longford District Court today.
29-year-old Martin Grundza, with an address at Lana Aoibheann, Longford, was charged with assault causing harm, under Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, to a man in his 30s last Wednesday at Chapel Lane in the town.
Mr Grundza appeared in court today wearing a tracksuit.
Garda David Carthy, of Longford Garda Station, gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution at the station last night.
He said the accused made no reply to the charge.
It's the state's case up to 20 people gathered outside a house on Chapel Lane just before the incident.
The state claims the alleged victim sustained stab wounds to his neck and was treated in hospital for serious injuries but has since been discharged.
Longford-based solicitor Diarmuid Quinn represented the accused.
Judge Bernadette Owens granted Mr Grundza bail, with several conditions - including staying away from Chapel Lane, living at an address in Edgeworthstown, giving his own bond of €2,500 and surrendering his passport.
The court heard Mr Grundza is in receipt of disability payments and he was granted legal aid.
