Self employed not covered under new government sick pay bill

Trade Union officials have branded the new bill as a step in the right direction.

Self-employed people won't be covered by the new minimum standard sick pay bill.

The bill will mean by 2025 all employees will be entitled to 10 days sick leave a year paid at 70 per cent of their salary.

However, self-employed people will still be responsible for managing their own leave with no subsidy from the state.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar says he expects many employers will do better than the legislation announced today:
