Seán Kyne has won the Galway West-bye-election.
The Fine Gael candidate overtook Independent Ireland's Noel Thomas on the 11th and final count.
Mr Kyne had trailed Mr Thomas throughout the count, but slowly made inroads into his opponent's lead as the day progressed.
Kyne received 4,249 votes from the distribution of the votes of the Labour Party's Helen Ogbu to go into the lead on 19,218 votes.
While Thomas received 1,273 votes from Ogbu vote to end up on 16,519 votes.
Kyne takes the seat vacated by President Catherine Connolly.
