The award-winning initiative has supported 90 farmers in managing more than 260 archaeological sites over the past eight years.

The Farming Rathcroghan Project in Co Roscommon is set to cease operations in March due to a lack of long-term funding.

The award-winning initiative has supported 90 farmers in managing more than 260 archaeological sites over the past eight years.

Despite repeated efforts, the project says state agencies responsible for heritage have provided little financial backing.

Its closure will mean the loss of staff, farmer payments, community supports and heritage protection measures.
