The provision of safe houses and refuges for victims of domestic violence is a key target for a Roscommon support service.
Roscommon Safe Link is a non-profit charitable organisation that offers information, support and counselling to women and men suffering abuse.
The service's 2024 annual report has shown a 13 percent increase in new clients, with the increase down to more people being willing to seek support according to the organisation.
Safe houses allow people and families fleeing domestic violence a place to stay and recuperate in a secure environment.
Three properties have now been identified and are in the process of being assessed for suitability, with hopes one will come online by the end of the year.
The service has also identified a green fields site in the county for provision of full refuge, offering a range of service such as counselling and supports.
