A County Roscommon wholesaler was one of five food businesses issued with a closure order by the Food Safety Authority. Houda Foods, based at Unit 5, Ballinlough Business in the west of the county was given the order last month. Mr Shadi Kezze on behalf of Houda Foods was issued with the closure order on the 27th of May. According to the FSAI report, the layout and design of the premises did not permit good food hygiene practice. It said that food was stored in a warehouse that was shared with another non-food business and that there was no physical separation between both businesses.
The report also found that adequate procedures were not in place to control pests and that mouse droppings were visible on the floor where food was stored. Food which had been placed on the market was not adequately labelled to facilitate traceability. There was no labelling or traceability information for food such as green olives, red pepper paste, dried fruits, or nuts. There was also no supplier traceability such as invoices, delivery dockets or receipts.
