The Health Minister's refusal to reverse the removal of high-risk pregnancies from Portiuncula University Hospital is totally unacceptable and frightening. That's according to Roscommon councillor Laurence Fallon, who was reacting to Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill's comments in Sligo yesterday. The Minister insists she's putting women and babies first and working with an external management team to ensure the safety of those attending the Ballinasloe facility.
She says there's been some progress there following on from the HSE's recent decision to move expectant mothers deemed high risk to University Hospital Galway. But Cllr Fallon says he wanted to see efforts made to ensure all pregnancies could be accommodated at Portiuncula:
