Commercial rates will increase by 5 per cent in Co Roscommon next year – but not for small businesses.
This was agreed at a private meeting between some councillors and council chiefs yesterday.
This morning, the council will hold their annual budget meeting in the local authority’s headquarters in Roscommon town.
On the table is a proposed budget of €86 million euro for 2026 – an increase of over €6 million on this year’s.
A 5 per cent increase in commercial rates is also proposed by council chiefs.
But those with rates bills of less than €20,000 – which is 96 per cent of businesses – will have this waived.
While these issues will be only formally signed off this morning, they’ve already been agreed privately.
Councillors and council management met yesterday in camera to consider the proposals, and they were agreed by the majority.
