A local firefighter has urged people to ensure they have working smoke alarms in their homes.
It comes as figures released today show that there were almost 500 fire incidents in the Shannonside region last year.
Cllr Micheal Frain, a long serving member of the local fire services, says maintaining properties can also save lives.
25 people died in house fires last year, according to the latest data from the Department of Housing.
