The public consultation regarding the rezoning of land in county Leitrim will commence in the coming weeks. Last July, the government ordered local authorities to carry out the process. However Housing Minister James Browne has confirmed that just Mayo and Waterford councils had completed the process.
It's reported that "serious measures" are being considered to address councils which do not zone sufficient land for housing. Drumshanbo-based Cllr Brendan Barry feels there's a large amount of work ahead for the local authority:
