Psychological assessment delays sentencing in Longford arson case

The fire caused several million euro worth of damage to businesses in Grafton Court in July 2024.

A psychological assessment is to be carried out on a man responsible for an arson incident in Longford town.

The fire caused several million euro worth of damage to businesses in Grafton Court in July 2024.

Chinese national Guo Zhong Chen, of Belvedere Terrace, Mullingar, pleaded guilty to starting the fire and was due to be sentenced today.

But Longford Circuit Court heard a psychological report is outstanding.

Legal aid was granted for an interpreter to cover a psychological assessment.

The sentencing was adjourned until May 19th.
