There are calls for Westmeath County Council to name the new greenway bridge in honour of the late Mary O'Rourke.
The former TD and Government Minister passed away last year at the age of 87.
She had previously served on Westmeath County Council from 1979 to 1987.
Cllr Paul Hogan brought forward the proposal at the March meeting of Athlone-Moate Municipal District.
