Pro Life advocate defends controversial newspaper advertisement

The advertisement, which appeared in the Roscommon People, was described as 'cruel' by Pro Choice activists.

A Pro Life advocate from Leitrim has defended a controversial ad campaign in a local newspaper. The advertisement, which appeared in the Roscommon People on July 26th, was described as 'cruel' by Pro Choice activists including Sinn Féin TD Claire Kerrane this week. The ad compared fines imposed on those who destroy eggs in nature with fees received by doctors for providing abortion services. In a statement, Roscommon People editor Paul Healy said a review of the ad was now underway following recent feedback. Sinead Treacy, however, says abortion is an emotive topic and Pro Life campaigners want to highlight the reality of procedures. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, she said there's no easy way of getting their stance across to the public:
