Plans to fast-track approval for a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal have been met with growing concern from environmental groups and local representatives.
The Government is seeking to introduce legislation that would significantly shorten the planning process for a floating gas storage and regasification unit.
If completed, it would act as a strategic reserve in the event of disruption to Ireland's gas supply.
County Leitrim led the way to ban fracking in 2017.
Local Cllr Eddie Mitchell is also a spokesperson for the Love Leitrim Community Group.
