Plans are on schedule to see the opening of a new 50 bed unit for Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe early next year.
Advanced works have been underway over the last number of months, with the main construction expected to begin this Summer.
The 15 million euro build will include a 4,000 square metre building with a 50-bed unit as well as a link corridor incorporating a lift and storage area.

The project saw several delays in the tender process over the last two years, with the completion date set to hit the revised timeline target.
Local Independent TD Denis Naughten says the new ward will be vital to replace beds lost during the covid pandemic.
