A well known multinational medical device company has secured planning permission for an extension of their Athlone R&D laboratory.
Mallinckrodt Medical Unlimited Company trading as Medtronic had applied for the works at their facility in Cornamaddy.
The company develops and produces medical devices for a range of conditions including cardiovascular, diabetes and neurological issues.

Plans submitted to Westmeath County Council called for the construction of a new single story R&D office on the south west side of their existing building, with a plant at the roof level.
The company also sought change of use of the existing R&D laboratory and part offices to manufacturing.
Plans were approved with four conditions attached.
