Planning permission is being sought for a significant expansion at an Athlone primary school.
The Board of Management at St. Mary's Primary School has submitted an application to Westmeath county planners.
Included in the submission is the proposed development of a two-storey classroom building, comprising of eleven mainstream classrooms, a dedicated SEN unit with two safe-base classrooms and a multi-sensory room.
It would also see the construction of a new school office, nine special education tuition rooms, one home school liaison, staff facilities and all ancillary accommodation.
The development will include a new vehicle and pedestrian entrance from John Paul Park, road and junction upgrades, and reconfiguration of parking spaces along the park.
County planners have received the application and are due to make a decision by September.
