There are plans for a 100-acre solar farm in Carrick-on-Shannon. Elgin Energy Services says it would be based in the Meera and Tullyleague townlands. It would have photovoltaic panels, a substation and 23 inverter stations.
Roscommon County Council will decide whether to give it planning permission next month. Carrick man Leslie O'Hora, from the Green Party, says it would be a welcome development:
