Planning permission has been granted for a new apartment development in Athlone.
Croughan Enterprises Ltd is seeking to develop two buildings, one on Castlemaine Street and the other on Bower Road comprising of a total of 8 new apartments in the University Town.
Plans show the demolition of an existing disused off licence premises and rear storage structure and the construction of one block of 5 apartments and one 3 storey building holding 3 apartments.
The development will feature private open spaces, pedestrian areas, cycle parking, shared open courtyard and waste management.
The application was approved with 14 conditions attached by Westmeath County Planners.
They included requirements to pay two payments, one of €16,000 and one of €10,000 to the planning authority as a development contribution and towards public infrastructure respectively.
