Parish Priest gave last rites to Detective Garda Horkan

The Parish priest in Castlerea Fr John Mc Manus says there's a huge sense of shock in the town at the death of Detective Garda Horkan during an incident on the street last night.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Fr McManus revealed he'd been called to administer the last rites and other garda members had joined in prayer at the scene.

Local Fianna Fail councillor and Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council Pascal Fitzmaurice who runs a business a short distance away from where the incident happened said he knew Detective Garda Horkan previously when he was stationed in the area, and had been very happy to see him come back as a member of the Detective unit.
