Over €1 million in funding has been announced for projects across the Shannonside region. The funding was announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development Dara Calleary, who's visiting Roscommon today. Leitrim projects are to receive over €709,000, Roscommon projects will get over €213,000 while three Longford projects will receive total funding of almost €200,000. Today's funding announcement is part of a €17 million allocation for 212 community projects nationwide. Seven projects in Leitrim will receive just over €709.000 with Mohill GAA Club set to benefit from €133,000 for AstroTurf works. Sean O'Heslin's GAA will get €113,000 towards fencing and floodlighting for their AstroTurf facilities.
There's also €84,000 for accessibility works at The Dock and €67,000 for Aura Leisure in Drumshanbo for the refurbishment of its swimming pool and over €70,000 for Aras Phadraig in Drumshanbo. Four projects in Longford will receive almost €200,000 with Longford Civil Defence set to receive €50,000 for the purchase of a site. Lus na Greine Family Resource Centre will also receive €50,000 for the enhancement of its outdoor space while the local TidyTowns group will get the same amount for upgrade works in Longford town. €47,725 has been allocated for Moyne Community School for works on its football pitch.
Meanwhile, four projects in Roscommon are set to benefit from over €213,000 in funding. There's €80,000 for Monksland recreational and playground enhancements and €73,000 for improvement works at Castlerea swimming pool. Kilbride Community Centre will also receive over €58,000 to upgrade its minibus and South Roscommon Family Resource Centre is getting over €60,000 for refurbishment works at two locations.
