Over 600 of the 1,143 properties inspected in 2024 failed to meet standards. The Housing Minister, James Browne, yesterday announced the highest ever number of inspections. The Department of Housing has provided a break-down of the number of inspections carried out per local authority in 2024. In the Shannonside region, Roscommon County Council carried out the most inspections, at 938. This included the evaluation of 604 dwellings, and 415 properties which did not meet regulatory requirements upon first inspection.
This is followed by Leitrim County Council, where 309 dwellings were inspected. 145 were not compliant with the requirements set out by the first inspection. Meanwhile, Longford County Council executed the least amount of inspections in the region, with 230 dwellings examined in 2024. 72 properties in the local authority failed to meet legally enforced standards.
