The petition was submitted as part of an objection to An Bord Pleanála regarding plans for Academy House on Goff Street.

Over 300 people have signed a petition against proposed asylum seeker accommodation in Roscommon town. The petition was submitted as part of an objection to An Bord Pleanála regarding plans for Academy House on Goff Street. It followed an application by Noel Whelan to house up to 17 people at the property.

Roscommon County Council had initially refused planning based on traffic and pedestrian safety concerns. A group called Roscommon Says No to IPAS has since been set up. Monica Leyden, a member of the group, says there's shock and anger amongst Roscommon residents:
