Over 200 people in the Shannonside region have availed of the Electric Vehicles Grant so far in 2025. That's over 50 more than last year. Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI) has a target under the Climate Action Plan 2023 to have 30% of our private car fleet switched to electric by 2030. The EV Grant is one of many initiatives that have been implemented with the end goal of achieving this target. You may be able to get a grant from the Sustainable Energy Authority Ireland (SEAI) if you buy a battery-powered electric vehicle (BEV) that meets specific standards.
You can get a grant of up to €3,500 for battery-powered electric vehicles (BEV). The grant for BEVs only applies to new cars with a full price of between €14,000 and €60,000. So far in 2025, 44 have availed of the grant in Leitrim, 72 in Longford, and Roscommon with the highest number to avail of the grant so far in the Shannonside region of 111. In total that's currently 52 more than the entire total of successful applicants in 2024. The figures were recently released in the Dáil by the minister for transport Darragh O'Brien.
