The number of unaccompanied learner drivers caught by Gardaí locally has increased. 172 were detected in the first three months of 2026 in Sligo-Leitrim and Mayo-Roscommon-Longford.
This is an increase from 125 during the same period last year. Local Cllr Brendan Barry feels the driving waiting test backlog goes some way to contributing to the figures:
