26 primary schools across the Shannonside region have been added to the Hot Schools Meal Programme from today.
The announcement comes from the Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary as part of a national plan to extend the programme to all schools.
The Hot School Meals Programme was initially introduced as a pilot of 30 schools but has now extended to almost 3,000 schools across the country.
18 primary schools in Co. Roscommon, 5 in Co. Leitrim and 3 in Co. Longford are set to have access to hot meals with immediate effect.
The department will contact the remaining schools who have not yet joined the programme to submit expressions of interest, which will make them eligible for the scheme starting from September 2025.
