No community welfare officer is currently based in Castlerea, Co Roscommon.
The Social Protection Minister has confirmed the news to a local TD.
Independent Ireland's Michael Fitzmaurice asked Minister Dara Calleary why there's no community welfare officer, or CWO, in Castlerea.
He called for the position to be filled.
He also asked if a CWO could be assigned to attend the Castlerea office one day per week to meet with local people in need of this service for appointments.
Minister Calleary said these officers are on site daily in 51 Intreo centres around the country.
He said there's a CWO in the Intreo centre in Roscommon town who's available to meet clients in Castlerea.
He said, alternatively, there's a CWO based in Boyle who is also available to meet with clients from Castlerea if that is more suitable.
He added, where a person requires an appointment or a visit, this can also be facilitated at their home or another suitable location if they prefer.
