Plans will be lodged next week for a multimillion euro development in Tarmonbarry, which could create over 40 jobs.
It will include a restaurant, retail units and housing.
When the N5 upgrade between Ballaghaderreen and Scramogue opens next year, it will present a big opportunity for Tarmonbarry.
With Frenchpark, Ballinagare, Tulsk and Strokestown all bypassed, Tarmonbarry will be the first town or village a driver hits after leaving Westport on the way to Dublin.
And developer and councillor Tom Crosby is planning a major development for the village, across from Westward filling station.
A planning notice will be published tomorrow, ahead of the application being lodged with Roscommon County Council next week.
It will include four retail units, accommodating a pharmacy, physiotherapy and two other businesses.
There'll also be a restaurant and drive-thru, such as Supermacs or McDonald's, 13 homes - seven houses and six apartments - and 32 car-parking spaces.
Mr Crosby says it's a major investment:
He says it will create lots of jobs.
Roscommon County Council is likely to decide whether to give the plans the green light this summer.]
