A motorist in Longford was detected driving at close to triple the speed limit in the North of the county over the Easter Weekend.
Longford Gardaí taking part in the National Road's Policing Operation over the bank holiday weekend clocked a motorist driving at 179 kilometres an hour on the R194 near Granard.
That stretch of the road is a 60k zone, with the driver almost triple the prescribed limit.
They were stopped by Gardaí and arrested with a court date to follow.
Three people were killed and 12 others received "serious and life-threatening injuries" over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
Over 2,800 drivers were detected for speeding since the Garda operation came into place on Thursday morning, with a further 225 fined for using mobile phones.
