Contraband with an estimated value of over €262,500 was seized in various operations which included the Midlands.
The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence led operations, and included the following:
- 72kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of almost €68,000
- Over 250g cocaine with an estimated value of over €17,000
- Various other illicit drugs with an estimated value of almost €3,700
- Over 778 litres of alcohol with an estimated value of over €9,400, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €5,200
- Tobacco products, with an estimated value of over €39,800, and represents a potential loss to the exchequer of over €36,250, and
- 321 other counterfeit items with an estimated value of over €124,600
The drug seizures were made as a result of risk profiling and with the assistance of detector dogs Sam and Ciara. The parcels originated from the USA, Thailand, Canada and the UK, and were destined for various addresses nationwide. The seizures were assisted by detector dogs Ciara, Sam and Jaspar.
The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.
1 weapon was also seized.
Investigations into the seizures are ongoing.
