Main Elphin Diocese cathedral to reopen following restoration work

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Sligo has been closed for the past six months.

The main cathedral for the Diocese of Elphin will reopen this weekend after major restoration work. The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Sligo has been closed for the past six months. The historic building is 150 years old and accommodates up to 800 people. John Fahy, from Nolan and Quinlan Architects, explains the work that's been completed this year:

The first Mass in the reopened cathedral takes place on Saturday evening at 7 o'clock. Four Masses will be held there on Sunday - at 8.30, 10.30, 12 noon and 7pm. Bishop of Elphin and Achonry, Kevin Doran, is encouraging people to attend:
