Longford dairy farmer Mike Magan says he's hoping a charity appeal he began for Yemen earlier this year might result in €100,000 being raised.

The Killashee farmer says he was struck by the plight of people who are starving because of a famine in Yemen when he was watching a news report in June of this year.

His idea was to find some way to let every dairy farmer in the country make a small donation to the appeal in as easy a way as possible.

Mike Magan says the co-ops all over the country have co-operated by using their existing accounts systems to allow farmers make a contribution.

The Longford man says the total raised through this once-off payment collected from the dairy-farmers will be known in a couple of weeks and he's hoping it will reach six figures…
