Longford Darkness Into Light organisers criticised over social media posts

In the posts, the group stated that unofficial events could hinder Pieta’s ability to help people with suicidal ideation, who are self-harming, or who have been bereaved by suicide.

Longford's official Darkness Into Light walk has been criticised by local GAA clubs over Facebook posts from the group's official account.

In a series of Facebook posts over the last week, the Longford Darkness Into Light Facebook group highlighted advertisements for unofficial walks around the country.

In the posts, the group stated that unofficial events could hinder Pieta’s ability to help people with suicidal ideation, who are self-harming, or who have been bereaved by suicide.

This has led to a backlash from local organisations hosting unofficial events.

In a statement to Shannonside FM News, Fr Manning Gaels and St Helens GAA Club in Drumlish have stated their disappointment in the comments.

They described it as disheartening to their volunteers to see the comments in such a public manner

They stated that it was not credible to state that local events take away from other official events and will host their event as normal.
