A local councillor says she's taking a statement on the future of a follow-up clinic in Longford town 'with a pinch of salt'. Cllr Peggy Nolan was reacting to the HSE's announcement yesterday that there's currently no decision to remove Regional Hospital Mullingar clinics. It came after claims that a number of patients who attend St Joseph's Care Centre were told it would be moved next month.
The service is run by a Mullingar consultant and is used for follow-up appointments as well as GP referrals. The HSE said management are working with the clinical team to plan for future service provision. It said it wants to ensure the continuity of safe and efficient surgical services for patients in Longford. Cllr Nolan says local health services have faced similar threats in the past:
