A Longford based company has been ordered to pay a former staff member €7,500 following a hearing at the Workplace Relations Commission. Mr Raymond Nevin, who is a member of the traveller community, brought a case against CPF Profiles after he believed he was being discriminated against by his employer. Mr Nevin says he overheard the managing director using words such as "pikeys" and "tinkers" on phone calls in June 2024.
The Managing Director stated he may have said the word "pikey" however he claimed he had no recollection of using the word "tinkers" and would not have used the word with one of his regular customers who was a member of the traveller community. WRC Adjudication Officer Anne McElduff decided that the complaint was well founded and ordered the respondent to pay Mr Nevin €7,500. She also said she considered the amount awarded to be fair and reasonable.
