The organisers of an anti-racism protest which had been scheduled to take place in Longford last Saturday have announced they are going ahead with the event this weekend.
The march was cancelled last week after organisers said they did not want the event to be divisive given the concern in the community over the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Several other events did take place around the country on last Saturday.
A statement from the organisers of the Longford event this evening says that "protests have sprung up throughout the country to highlight the evils of racism and the need to eradicate it, so it would be embarrasing and severely backward for the Longford voice not to be heard during this season of action and protest."
The statement also says that to combat any worries regarding Covid-19 , attendees are advised to bring PPE, and stewards will be working to ensure social distancing is maintained.
